About the Role
Studio Assistants are the key to our smooth, joyful class experience at CHS. This is a hands-on, active role β you'll be setting up and breaking down materials, washing paintbrushes, restocking supplies, walking kids to and from the restroom, supporting handwashing routines, and jumping in to help young artists as they work. You are not responsible for leading instruction, but you are absolutely responsible for making the studio feel safe, warm, and well-run.
If you love kids, don't mind a little chaos, and take pride in being the person who keeps everything running behind the scenes β we want to hear from you!
What You'll Do
Prepare and set up art materials and work spaces before each class and reset them between classes
Assist artists ages 4β11 as they work β encouraging, helping, and celebrating their process
Walk children to and from the restroom and supervise handwashing
Wash brushes and tools, clean surfaces, and keep the studio tidy throughout your shift
Support the lead teacher so they can stay focused on instruction
Help maintain a safe, supervised environment for all children in our care
Welcome students and families with warmth and enthusiasm
This job is for you ifβ¦
You are warm, patient, and genuinely love spending time with young children.
You're a hard worker who takes pride in doing the unglamorous stuff well.
You're reliable, show up on time, and communicate clearly.
You're creative and comfortable in an art environment, even if you're not an artist.
You thrive in busy, hands-on settings and can stay calm and kind when things get a little chaotic.
You're interested in being part of a values-driven small business that's doing meaningful work in the East Bay.
This job is not for you ifβ¦
You struggle with punctuality or consistent attendance.
You're not comfortable with the physical demands of an active, sometimes messy environment.
You have a hard time connecting with young children or their families.
Your schedule is uncertain or you can't commit to Saturdays through the end of the school year.
