Studio policies & FAQs
These guidelines help us keep our studio a welcoming, safe, and creativity-filled space for everyone.
-
To ensure a positive experience for all, we require that our youngest artists meet two key readiness criteria:
Drawing Development: Children should be past the scribbling stage and beginning to create intentional shapes and forms.
Level of Independence: Artists must be comfortable using the bathroom on their own and participating in class without a parent present.
If we determine a child is not quite ready for the program, we may remove them from the series and offer a credit for a future series.
-
Registration Cancellation
All reservations include a 20% non refundable deposit.
Cancellations made more than 14 days prior to the series start date may receive a refund minus the non-refundable deposit.
Cancellations made within 14 days of the class series start date are NONREFUNDABLE.
Class Cancellation
In the unlikely event that Corner House Studio cancels a class due to illness, low enrollment, or unforeseen issues, we will either offer an alternative session or issue a refund for the missed class.
-
We understand that delays happen. However, if your child is picked up 10 or more minutes after the end of class a late fee of $25 will be charged.
If they are picked up 30 minutes or more after class ends a fee of $75 will be charged.
Late pickup fees are paid directly to the staff members who stay to supervise your child after pickup time.
-
We encourage creative freedom—which often means getting a little messy!
While we provide aprons, we recommend sending your child to class in clothes that can handle paint, glue, and other materials.
-
Illness
If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home to rest and recover. This helps protect the health of our entire studio community.
If a child is dropped off and showing signs of illness (ex. coughing, fever, sneezing) we may keep the artists out of class and request an early pick up.
Emergency Preparedness
In the unlikely event of an emergency evacuation, our designated meeting location is Montclair Park, one block from the studio. We practice safety protocols as part of our staff training to ensure a calm and organized response in an emergency situation.
-
We value freedom and autonomy and try to create the least restrictive environment possible for our artists.
Our behavior policy exists to keep our community respectful, safe, and focused on creativity and fun.
All artists are expected to:
Participate actively and safely in studio activities
Respect others, teachers, materials, and space
Keep hands and bodies to themselves
Follow directions from teachers and staff
Use kind language and actions
Addressing Disruptive Behavior
If an artist’s behavior makes it hard for others to feel safe, focus, or enjoy the program, we will work with families to find solutions. However, if disruptive behavior continues after support and communication, your child may be dismissed from the program.
Any behavior that puts others at risk—such as hitting, kicking, pushing, or making threats—may result in immediate removal from the program.
-
If your child has a disability, developmental delay, or sensory, emotional, or behavioral needs that may impact their experience in class, please reach out to makeart@cornerhouse.studio. We’d love to partner with you on a support plan that helps your artist feel safe, supported, and successful here.
-
Our talented teachers bring a wealth of artistic knowledge and creativity to their teaching. Just as important, they are kind and patient—dedicated to making each child feel confident and inspired.
All staff members are trained in safety protocols, positive behavior management, and our studio’s unique, confidence building approach to creativity.
-
By registering for any of our programs, you grant Corner House Studio permission to use photos or videos taken during class for marketing and promotional purposes.
If you prefer for your child not to be included, please let us know.

When you arrive, your child will be greeted in our lobby area.
Artists are welcomed into their studios no more than 5 minutes before the official start time of class or cam.
Note that we can not accommodate early drop-offs and the front door may remain locked until 5 minutes prior to the class or camp start time.
We strongly encourage timely arrival. Our classes begin promptly, with the first 10–15 minutes dedicated to introducing the day’s lesson and materials. Late arrivals will miss critical instruction and may find it difficult to catch up.
-
Artists will be ready for pickup in the lobby area at the end of their class session.
If your child is older and you would like to authorize them to leave on their own after class please let us know beforehand.
-
To help kids build confidence, focus, and independence we kindly ask parents and caregivers to remain outside the studio work areas.
If your artist is feeling anxious you may choose to wait for them on the bench in our lobby area.
Note that we do not have any closed doors in the studio and your child may step out at any time if they need reassurance.
If your artist is having difficulty with separation let us know —we are happy to work with you to make them feel more at ease.
-
Missed Classes
If your artist needs to miss a class you may be able to schedule a make up class, or we will do our best to catch artists up in the next session.
Note that class fees are for the entire series and we do not offer refunds for missed classes.
Make Up Classes
A limited number of makeup sessions are available based on space availability per series.
Makeup classes must be scheduled in advance of the absence and take place the same week.
You may schedule up to 2 makeup classes per 8-week series.

Every class series is designed to give artists the opportunity to explore a wide range of materials and fine art techniques in an age appropriate way.
Classes focus on creating 4-5 pieces across a variety of media and themes. Each series typically includes:
Something sculptural: exploring 3d construction using cardboard, clay, wood, wire, plaster or recycled materials
Painting :with acrylic, tempera or watercolors on paper, canvas or wood panels
Drawing: with charcoal, graphite, india ink, and/or pastels
Printmaking and/or mixed media exploring block printing, silkscreen, collage and other mixed media techniques
We focus on building artistic confidence through creative exploration and experimentation, not perfection or copying.
Our goal is for every artist to feel proud of what they’ve made and how they’ve grown as artists.
Bringing Art Home
Artists will bring home work as it is completed, usually beginning in week 3 or 4 of the series.
This gives plenty of time for pieces to be refined (and fully dry!) before they make it home.
