Art Teacher
We’re seeking a warm, friendly, reliable person who loves kids to join our Oakland, CA team as part-time Art Teacher.
Corner House Studio is looking for an Art Teacher to join our in-person teaching team for the remainder of the school year teaching art classes for kids age 4-11.
Schedule: The general schedule to start is 1-2 part-time shifts per week. Classes are 1 hour in length and most of our teachers work 4-5 hours per shift. Our current shift openings for the Winter/Spring semester are Wednesday afternoons from 1:45 - 6:30 and Fridays 3:15 - 6:30.
Responsibilities: Art Teachers at CHS use our well crafted curriculum and teaching philosophies to lead engaging art classes that build creative confidence in artists ages 4-12. Regular duties include preparing for art lessons, delivering our programming with creativity and authenticity, and cleaning up / resetting the studio—while always ensuring the safety and support of all children in our care. Art Teachers at CHS are also community builders; serving to welcome their students and their families, building relationships with parents and caregivers, and making the full-family experience at the studio positive and enjoyable.
Although most of our teachers start with 2-5 classes a week, after the first 60-90 days there may be room to grow your schedule. Your availability to sub for other classes on occasion is a plus for us.
ABOUT CORNER HOUSE STUDIO: Founded in 2023 by Creative Director and lifetime artist Jen Tank, Corner House Studio is a beloved East Bay children’s art studio known for high quality, thoughtfully designed art classes and camps that build creative confidence. We help kids grow into curious, capable creators through inspiring materials, process-forward projects, real skill building and warm, patient teaching —so they leave feeling proud of what they tried, excited to keep creating, and supported by a place that feels like a second home.
We have a very active community of families who return to us for classes and camp season after season, as well as a steady stream of new folks that come join us through our marketing efforts and word of mouth.
We’re a small team doing meaningful work, and we aim to make this a place where you can do great work AND feel supported as a human.
We make decisions based on the following values:
Community Building: We are building belonging here, not just art skills. We model empathy and inclusion and have real relationships with kids, families, and coworkers. For the right person, CHS is a place to grow—your teaching, your leadership, your confidence—while being part of a warm, values-driven community that matters.
Patience: We practice endless patience with the kids and with each other. We assume learning is messy because it is. Mistakes happen, projects flop, someone will always forget something. You’ll be supported by teammates who stay calm, kind, and steady: even when things get messy :).
Positive Mindset: Corner House Studio is a bright spot in a sometimes dark world. We bring warmth and encouragement, celebrate small wins, and protect the emotional tone of the studio so everyone can feel confident and supported.
Learning & Growth: Joining our small, tight-knit and highly collaborative team is an opportunity for mentorship in many aspects of both teaching and operating a mission-driven and profitable small business. We can help our team members master skillsets that interest them and build their resumes in the direction they want to go.
